Saint Laurent: A New Era

I'm sure all of you are aware that the iconic fashion house Yves Saint Laurent has undergone a name change this season. Under the direction of the new creative director, Hedi Slimane, it has gone back to its original roots when it was founded in 1966 and was then known as Saint Laurent Rive Gauge. At first I must admit I was shocked and sceptical when I heard about the shortening of the Y from SL - the YSL logo is synonymous with all things chic and is known worldwide. However, after viewing the latest collection I can see that the name change was fitting; it shows a new era for YSL. The runway show had a different vibe to today's Saint Laurent lady - she's still chic and timeless but with an edgier and more current attitude. All of the ready-to-wear collection have sharp and sleek tailoring contrasted against romantic sheer billowing blouses with pussy bows . In my opinion. Hedi Dlimane has managed to define with this collection the lady of 2013 - chic with a touch of edginess.

My favourite pieces from this collection has to be the heels! They have a timeless feel to them with their clean lines and subtle details. You can choose the classic pointed pump (the 'it' heel of the moment) in one colour, two-toned, metal trimmed or even in the Mary-Jane style. The wide brimmed fedora hat was seen in almost every look of the collection and is currently sold out on Net-a-PorterMatches and Saint Laurent Paris where the collections are being sold.
These are some of the modest looks from the runway collection:

Saint Laurent is definitely going through a rock 'n' roll and theatrical change and we should all embrace it. What are you loving from this collection?
